Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Social and Community Access important?

Accessing the community is an integral part of everyone’s life. We all need to access the community, whether it be through hobbies, work, or other social activities, to feel a sense of belonging and purpose. Interacting with other members of the community improves self-esteem, confidence, and overall mood.

What are some things I can do through Social and Community Access?

Some examples of activities you might want to do with the support of a Disability Support Worker include visiting the library, doing some cooking, going to see a movie or show, participating in a social group that is of interest to you, going shopping, or anything else that you can think of! If you are unsure, our friendly team can always work with you to come up with some ideas.

If there is a social group or other activity I want to do with the support of my Disability Support Worker that costs money, who pays for entry?

Any out-of-pocket costs, like entry fees, movie tickets and meals, need to be covered by the participant themselves. If a ticket is needed or an entry fee applies to the Disability Support Worker too, the participant will need to cover the cost of their entry too. A participant’s NDIS funding can only be used to pay for the services of the Disability Support Worker supporting them, not for any other out-of-pocket costs.
